"Mashinani" means grassroots in Swahili - bringing AI to everyone, everywhere
AI Mashinani was founded in 2023 to make AI and emerging technologies accessible to everyone, especially underserved communities in Kenya. Starting as a grassroots initiative, it aims to bridge the digital skills gap by providing hands-on, affordable tech education in AI, robotics, and other emerging fields. The organization focuses on reaching remote and overlooked areas, using inclusive tools — such as Sheng and Kiswahili — to ensure no one is left behind.
To create an Africa where every individual, regardless of their location or background, has access to AI knowledge and the ability to apply it for personal and community development.
To deliver inclusive, practical AI education and innovation programs tailored to the needs of grassroots communities.
We co-create with the communities we serve, ensuring our programs meet their real needs and aspirations.
No prior tech background? No problem. We meet learners where they are with simple, practical training.
We teach through real-world use cases like business automation and digital entrepreneurship.
Our goal is long-term community transformation, not short-term hype.
"AI Mashinani was founded in 2023 on the belief that innovation should not end at city limits. We are demonstrating that with the right tools and training, grassroots communities can drive the next wave of digital transformation."
